Enhancing the long-term competitiveness of the forest sector in a green economy: Policies for forest-based bioeconomy in Europe
The workshop will join policymakers, researchers and businesses from across the pan-European region to discuss issues of the forest sector competitiveness, and look for effective policy measures at international, national and regional levels. In this respect, the workshop will also strive to identify what further work is needed in intergovernmental cooperation at pan-European policy level under Ministerial Conference on the Protection of Forests in Europe (FOREST EUROPE).
The workshop is organized in cooperation with Norway, EUSTAFOR and USSE. The workshop will be conducted in English and is open to all.
In order to promote long-term competitiveness and viability ofthe whole forest sector and its contribution to the overall Green Economy, the workshop will aim to:
–Exchange views on future policy making and governance to support development of forest-based bioeconomy in European sub-regions
–Discuss drivers and barriers for long-term economic viability and competitiveness of forestry and forest-based industries, which provide a sound basis for bioeconomy, to enable relevant and effective policy response.
–Identify possible topics for intergovernmental cooperation at Pan European level focused at maintaining and increasing economic viability and competitiveness of the forest-based sector.
The workshop focuses on whole pan-European region. Taking into account significant differences between different parts of Europe, the workshop will seek regional balance. The organizers encourage participations from all countries of European continent to highlight challenges and opportunities in the different European sub-regions.
