FTP published its Position Paper on FP10, the upcoming EU Framework Programme for Research and Innovation. FTP calls for a stronger emphasis on the forest bioeconomy and wood-based products as building blocks of European competitiveness and a sustainable future.
The forest-based sector is uniquely positioned to contribute to Europe’s strategic objectives. Its renewable raw material is largely sourced from Europe, and the products derived from it are manufactured and recycled in Europe. This not only supports the green transition by replacing fossil-based materials but also secures jobs and livelihoods for millions of EU citizens. However, to fully unlock the potential of the sector, increased support and promotion are critical.
The Position Paper outlines four key recommendations for ensuring that FP10 effectively supports the forest-based sector:
- Facilitating business participation by simplifying and clarifying the framework programme
- Bringing the key themes of forest-based bioeconomy to the forefront
- Channelling research and innovation funding to well-functioning partnership models
- “Building the future with nature: Boosting Biotechnology and Biomanufacturing in the EU”
