Organised by the Finnish Central Union of Agricultural Producers and Forest Owners (MTK) at the European Parliament in Brussels on 10 January 2017, the seminar aims:
– to provide most recent research data on carbon dioxide emissions and removals by sustainable agriculture and forestry, the sole sectors which remove and recycle carbon dioxide from the atmosphere
– to discuss methodological approaches for better understanding of climate change mitigation potential by sustainable forest, cropland and grassland management under northern pedoclimatic conditions
– to highlight the role of heavily forested countries in the LULUCF proposal. With agriculture, it is equally important to maintain options to implement sustainable forest management as a commercial activity that is pivotal for enhancing livelihood of rural economies in the remote regions of the EU.
